December 17, 2019
Do you remember your strategic plan for 2020 from 10 to 15 years ago? It seemed so far in the distance, yet here we are with 2020 only a couple of weeks away.
My 19 year old daughter, Alex, has proclaimed that she:
“Can’t wait for the ’20s to roll around again. I am going to cut my hair short, develop a nicotine addiction and start calling everyone ‘old sport’ like Jay Gatsby.”
Let’s hope she is not serious about any of these statements.
So, where do I want to be in 2020? Personally, the new year will be all about what I planned to do and never got around to completing.
Often when I get off stage, people ask me, ‘Have you ever thought of being a stand-up comic?’ The answer is ‘Yes …a lot’. I would love it! But it also scares the hell out of me.
When I present to people in organisations, no one is expecting comedy …consequently I only have to be slightly funny to be entertaining. It is obviously not the same with stand-up comedy. People have the expectation that your set should be hilarious. As a result, I am terrified that I will not be able to live up to the audience’s expectations. Then again, you don’t know what you can do until you try. So, I announce (while feeling a bit sick), that I pledge to do a stand-up comedy course and perform at a live event during 2020.
I invite you to have a think about what it is that you could do in 2020 that will push you out of your comfort zone. Perhaps it might be running a marathon, doing a cooking course or even changing careers.
If you want to get better at communicating more effectively through storytelling, then I can help with that. Storytelling is a critical business skill …but make no mistake, it will take you out of your comfort zone.
So what do you think, are you up to it old sport?
If so, below are my half day Storytelling public programs for 2020 (I only offer these standalone half day workshops once a year).
SYDNEY – 5th March
CANBERRA – 10th March
MELBOURNE – 18th March
As a side note, I am also thinking about running a Real Communication one day workshop which will be a combination of Storytelling and How to Present with Impact. It will run if there are enough people, so make sure you register your interest and location with Elise. Or, if you have a team of 8 or more contact us about an in-house session.
Otherwise, carry on old sport!
If you can’t make the dates above but want to be advised of future workshops please let Elise know.
If you have a team of 8 or more contact Elise about an in-house workshop and she will schedule a time with me to discuss your needs.
