Presenting – In the casket or delivering the eulogy?

Blog

On the weekend I was reading Jerry Seinfeld’s book, Is This Anything. It’s a collection of his jokes over his entire career and contains 50 years of comedic genius. I’ve included one of my favourite Seinfeld observations below. I often refer to it when conducting presenting workshops.

“I saw a study that said the number one fear of the average person is public speaking.

Number two is death.

Death is number two! How in the world is that?

That means to most people, if you have to go to a funeral, you would rather be in the casket than doing the eulogy.”

Fear of Public Speaking

Fear of public speaking often prevents people from being at their best when they need to present in front of others. We have all sat through far too many boring presentations to know that to be true.

Sometimes this fear can even stop people from taking up opportunities to present or applying for a new job. This is such a shame, as there are several practical ways you can both reduce the nerves associated with presenting, as well as make your presentations more engaging.

Presenting with Impact

If you want to get better at public speaking, then don’t miss my final Presenting with Impact workshop for 2021. It is ideal for people who need to present information, regardless of whether it is to a small team or on stage to hundreds of people. What’s more, I will teach you different techniques to really improve your presentations, both ‘in the room’ or ‘on the Zoom’. You can find out more information and register for the session via the link below.

Presenting with Impact – 8th November, 1pm to 4:30pm (AEDT)

Client Testimonials

Gabrielle’s virtual training has had a measurable impact within my team on the way we are communicating together and most importantly to customers. I have seen such a change in the way the team think through landing the message with a memorable impact. The simple to adopt tools and techniques have meant we know we are having more impact and that our messages and intent is landing with our audiences. Gabrielle ran a ‘presenting with impact workshop’ for our NAB marketing team and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The presentation has really helped the group better understand not only how to construct a presentation but deliver it with impact, whether pitching to a small team, presenting on stage or to hundreds via a webinar. Nicole Abbott, Marketing & Customer Experience, NAB
